Transport for London to introduce parking charges on London's red routes
Westminster Council has just announced plans which we think will alienate their residents, keep visitors away and harm businesses in the central London Area. Subject to a short consultation period they plan to introduce Sunday Charging in the areas around Oxford Street, Bond Street, Mayfair, Piccadilly, Leicester Square and Covent Garden. In most of these areas they will also extend charging into the evening and possibly until midnight. Motorists will not be able to park on single yellow lines. Westminster say they are doing this to meet the competing needs of various users and to meet the challenges of the Olympics. We have seen evidence that seems to suggest that it may be for revenue raising purposes which would be illegal. Permalink.
We urge everyone to coment on the proposals or attend one of the workshops they are holding. Visit to www.westminster.gov.uk/parking
