Re-parked in the same parking space within 1 hour of leaving. In some areas you are only permitted to park for a maximum period. You are not then permitted to re-park in the same row of bays within one hour. You must move your car to a different row of bays. (Contravention Code 22)

Specific grounds of appeal for this contravention
1.The Road side signage must state clearly that you are not allowed to return within a period of one hour. The rules usually apply not just to the parking space in which you are parked, but that particular row of uninterrupted bays. It is not usually an offence however to park for the maximum time allowed in a bay and then re-park your car on the other side of the road or in a separate row of bays. The signs must also be clear and at regular intervals. please see below.
Below we show diagrams of the signs which must be in situ by law and much more information that will help you decide whether to appeal against your penalty charge notice.
We have even summarised adjudicator's decisions where motorists have won. As this site took over a year to develop and cost a small fortune and in order to support our constant campaigning against this usually unfair assault on the motorist we ask for a small contribution to view the rest of this page and the entire site. For details of what we do for the motorist see the section on the home page. Many thanks.
2. The enforcement of this particular contravention is more difficult because a civil enforcement officer (CEO) must have meticulous notes in order to prove that you re-parked within an hour of leaving. He would need to have previous entries of your registration, as well as the exact time when he logged the details. Also the CEO may well make notes of the valve positions on the tyres to see if the car has been moved and re-parked. The local authority would need to refer to the CEO’s notes in any appeal. If they are not clear (as we suspect they are not quite often) the local authority would not normally contest a case. Therefore you can ask the local authority for details of the notes if you do not believe that you committed a contravention.
3. This contravention code is for cars re-parked in the same bay within an hour of leaving. Some times the signs refer to re-parking within 40 minutes or even 2 hours of leaving in which case this would be the wrong contravention code.
Please see our section on parking adjudicators’ decisions which will have details of cases for this contravention.
Below are signs that should be in situ at the point of parking or within 3 car lengths of where you parked although of course they should refer to 1 hour for this contravention.
